The COVID-19 situation paused all our travels - we spent the last 5 months on Koh Phangan without any trips. I cannot say that is a bad place to wait out the epidemic – we love this island a lot and were glad we were “stuck” there.
But anyway we wanted any kind of change of scenery. And there was Masha's birthday as well, so we decided to go and celebrate it on Koh Samui.
For a couple days we stayed at the Skye Beach Hotel on Plai Laem beach, in the northeast of the island, not far from Big Buddha monument.
The hotel is new, was opened at the end of 2019, but has already got a lot of favorable disposition from tourists (10 points from 10 on bookig.com), and I should say this rating, in our opinion, is well deserved!
Hotel’s features
1. Beautiful sea view.
2. Swimming pool in the every apartment and villa.
3. Stylish design.
4. Floating breakfast as an option.
5. Sunset view.
6. Private cinema hall in the most of the rooms.
Our room
We stood in a spacious 3-bedroom penthouse.
with a total area of 245 sq. m.!
The central part of the apartment is a huge living room.
It is divided Visually into 2 parts – one has a large sofa and a TV.
In the other one – a kitchenette with a full set of dishes, an electric stove, a microwave oven.
and a dining table.
Two bedrooms are located behind the living room, separated by glass sliding doors.
They not too big, inside there is a bed, wardrobes, lamps.
We liked this conception – on the one hand the are separate bedrooms, and on the other, with the doors opened, general space looks roomy.
And one more benefit – you can see the sea from each bed!
A baby cot is provided for children.
Each bedroom has a bathroom
with sink, shower and toilet.
The first impression of the hotel – there is nothing stereotyped here. From the layout of the rooms to the design of the sanitary engineering, there is an individual approach to everything.
Later we talked with the owner of the hotel and made sure that the impression was correct - he told how he personally thought over literally every little thing there.
Starting from individual design elements, such as a silver bust that adorns every bathroom, and to the with the fact that absolutely all furniture was made to order.
But let's continue our room-tour.
Just behind the living room is a spacious terrace with a swimming pool.
Because there is no wall, but a glass sliding doors instead, the effect of huge spaciousness is even more felt.
If you open the door the room will combined with the terrace and the space turns out to be huge!
There is another sofa on the terrace with a coffee table,
two sun loungers with an umbrella.
And the private infinity pool with a gorgeous view!
Due to the glass doors there is a sea view from almost anywhere in the apartment.
Even from the toilet, sorry for the juicy detail, you can see the sea, which is reflected in the mirror)) There is no view only in the third bedroom. It is located at the back of the apartment, next to the entrance. It is slightly larger in size, also has a bathroom, and a small work table.
It is almost not possible to finish swimming in the pool with such a view!
well, somebody didn't getting out of it almost all the time =)
Another unique feature that caught our attention at the hotel is the personal mini cinema hall in most of the rooms (except studios)! The sea view in the room is cool, the design is very nice, but I know many places with, with cool sea view and nice design, no one with private room for watching movies. But the idea is great, isn't it?
At least we are, as a movie lovers, liked it so much! And the truth is - it's incredibly great to come back after an active day at the sea, by the pool, or trips around the island and not just turn on the TV, but relax in the sofa in your personal cinema hall. In the afternoon you enjoy the sea view and in the evening - a cool movie. So totally bliss =)
There are two sofas in this room, a wall-to-wall screen and a projector. You can watch TV channels, Youtube, Netxlix, pre-installed movies (in English).
Special thanks for this idea and good implementation, we were happy with it as children!
The other rooms and villas
The hotel rooms are located in a three-story building - there are 2 and 3 bedroom apartments. There are also studios there (the most budget category) – they are quite spacious, without a cinema hall, but also with private pool. The studios are on the ground floor without a view, and on the 2nd and 3rd floor with a sea view.
There are also 4 villas in the hotel.
Two of them are beach front.
with direct access to the beach.
They also with 3 bedrooms, a large living room with kitchen, swimming pool and cinema hall.
There are also two smaller villas - with two bedrooms and they are without a room with a projector.
Breakfast
The hotel doesn't have yet a restaurant (it is coming soon), so breakfasts are served in the room.
The breakfast is Continental – scrambled eggs, croissants, baguette, butter, juice, coffee in French press.
On the first day we had a table set in the room, and on the second day we were offered for a floating breakfast.
To be honest it cooled down while we were chasing it))
but we couldn't just take and eat it without taking a dozens photos))
The beach
Such a picturesque path leads from the hotel to the beach.
The beach where hotel is called Plai Laem.
This beach is secluded, there are no people there, but it is more suitable for walking rather swimming – there are stones in the sea and are quite shallow.
Summary
Skye Beach Hotel is a great choice for groups of friends, couples and large families. It seems to have everything you need for a great holiday - cozy and stylish villas and apartments with a swimming pool, a gorgeous sea view from the rooms, as well as a unique feature - a mini-cinema in most rooms. We were completely delighted with the rest of the hotel!
